Join us as local author, speaker, and performer Patricia Wynn Brown discusses her family memoir, Royal Roots: Reimagining a Life through Humor, a Castle, and the US Navy. "A decades-long family mystery is solved and the powerful magic of wishful thinking proves triumphant. A delicate balance of the sidekick of comedy, alongside tragedy, finds its synchronous rhythm in Royal Roots." BPL Board Member Jennifer McNally will moderate the conversation.
Copies of Royal Roots will be on sale at the event and Patricia will be available for a book signing following the discussion and audience Q&A.

About the Author
Patricia Wynn Brown is an award-winning writer, national speaker, performer, and dancer. Her university degrees focused on communication and psychology. Patricia's humor memoir column appeared in newspapers for eight years. For fifteen years, she performed her comedy memoir show across the country. As a former Catholic schoolgirl, her favorite color is plaid. Patricia considers humor to be the eighth sacrament of healing. A beloved comment she hears often from readers and audience members is, "I needed that laugh more than you'll ever know."
About the Book
HOPES AND DREAMS spring to life with booming tract housing and shiny new refrigerators in post-WWII America. However, many service members’ families continued to suffer in a never- ending, unacknowledged war. Patricia Wynn Brown, “the Mouthy One” in her middle American family, is hell-bent on overcoming the hardships of her chaotic family life. She battles family shame brought on by her veteran Dad’s bizarre behaviors and unexpected absences for hospitalizations while also figuring out how to mail a letter to her favorite Beatle (Paul).
When her father’s headline-grabbing death in 1980 eventually hits her, she is forced to reassess her life. A visit to a Welsh castle bolsters her courage to search for the truth behind her father’s actions, which leads to stunning disclosures. The US Navy helps transform shame into understanding and love. This uplifting journey’s revelatory lessons apply to anyone who is reassembling the fragments of a shattered life.
Brown tells her story with wit, faith, and an unflinching gaze. It is a humorous yet poignant exploration of how PTSD can impact a family, inter woven with a vivid portrayal of the popular culture and watershed events of the 1950s to 1970s.

Bexley Public Library
Bexley Public Library was founded in 1924 and first housed in Bexley High School, now Montrose Elementary School. The present building opened in 1929 and was designed by architects O.C. Miller and R.R. Reeves who drew upon French and Italian architecture from the 17th century for the design.
The library is located at 2411 East Main Street, at the intersection of East Main Street and Cassady Avenue. Parking is available in our parking lot on Euclaire Avenue and in front of the library on Main Street. Main Street is a No Parking Tow Zone from 4:00-6:00 p.m. weekdays.
