Gramercy Book Club Discussing "Wildlife" by Richard Ford

Primary tabs

Pulitzer-prize winning author Richard Ford will visit Bexley on April 23 for the 2019 Bexley Community Author Series. Prepare for his visit and join Gramercy Books and Bexley Public Library at the February Gramercy Book Club discussing Wildlife by Richard Ford. This discussion will be facilitated by Nick White, author and Assistant Professor of English at The Ohio State University.

Wildlife by Richard Ford, a book whose spare poetry and expansive vision established it as an American classic, was first published by Atlantic Monthly Press in 1990 and reissued as a Grove Press paperback in 2010. The novel is filled with an abiding sense of love and family, and of the forces that test them to the breaking point. A film adaptation of this novel, directed by Paul Dano and starring Carey Mulligan and Jake Gyllenhaal, was released last October to critical acclaim.

To facilitate this book club discussion is author and scholar Nick White, praised by the Washington Post as "Tennessee Williams . . . transposed to the 21st-century South." A native of Mississippi, Nick White's short stories, poems, and essays have appeared in a variety of publications. His novel, How to Survive a Summer, and story collection, Sweet & Low, were released to high acclaim. Nick is an Assistant Professor of English at The Ohio State University's MFA Program in Creative Writing.

RICHARD FORD is the featured author for the 2019 Bexley Community Author Series, hosted by Bexley Public Library, and will appear in Bexley on April 23rd. The author of six novels and three collections of stories, writing since the 1970s, Ford is recognized as one of America's greatest living authors. His novel, The Sportswriter, was named by Time Magazine as one of the best 100 books written in English since the magazine's inception. He won the Pulitzer Prize and the PEN/Faulkner Prize for his novel Independence Day, the first novel to ever win both prizes, and he was also named a Pulitzer Prize finalist for Let Me Be Frank With You. His most recent book, Between Them, is a beautiful and stirring memoir of his parents.
